BILLY MAYS: SUDDEN DEATH AT 50

OMG! Billy Mays has died suddenly! We knew Billy from our many years of doing public shows with him as an exhibitor. Bill was a really quiet, nice and organized exhibitor. He was the kind of pitchman that came to life when the light came on. Our prayers and thoughts are with his wife and family. RIP BILL

My friends Bobb and Karin Schmitz of Easy Way Products had this to say about Billy's death:

Bobb and Karin:

Yesterday Billy got home to Tampa from shooting a commercial in Philadelphia. There was a blow out on one of the plane's tires during the landing. Something fell down and hit Billy on the head. It was a very rough landing. Billy was interviewed by a Tampa TV station and he told them he was hit on the head but that he had a hard head.

This may be something similar to what happened to Natasha Richardson.

Thanks guys!

TAMPA, Fla.
– Tampa police say Billy Mays, the television pitchman known for his boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean, has died. He was 50.

Authorities say Mays was pronounced dead Sunday morning after being found by his wife at home. There were no signs of a break-in, and investigators do not suspect foul play. The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.

Mays' wife, Deborah Mays, says the family doesn't expect to make any public statements and asked for privacy.

Mays was also featured on the reality TV show "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel, which followed Mays and Anthony Sullivan in their marketing jobs.

Bobb's First Dream: Being a Jockey

As I am constantly being asked questions about
my life such as:

How do you become an entrepreneur?
What’s the key to my success?
Here are a few points I’d like to cover.
It’s not really a matter of the education or money
you have. It’s really about the person you are inside.

Do you remember when you were young once?

We all had our dreams of what we wanted to
become and do…. I wanted to ride race horses.
At the age of seven I had a pony named Captain and I
loved riding FAST.

I kept that dream in front of me. (The only time in
my entrepreneurial life that I would get a W2 was
at age 16 when I started working at McDonalds).

When I turned 18 I quit Mc Donald’s and moved
to Detroit for a job on a horse track. One year later
after cleaning stalls, washing and cooling horses
after they went to the track, I earned the right to ride
race horses and go FAST. I became that Jockey that I
dreamed about. I did that for six years,
until I got “too hungry to ride”.

I kept my vision and dreams in front of me with
blind determination and passion to ride that made
it possible to achieve.

This was one of many goals I set for myself that I
achieved.
……to be continued.

When Bobb Met Karin

From Karin:

The week before we met, my sister Peggy, was shopping an
indoor flea market and while checking out she
encounters Bobb talking to the vendor about buying
advertising in a newspaper called “Fair Times”.

She overheard Bobb say that he was going to be at the
Rolla, MO Extravaganza that weekend. Bobb was also
a vendor with a pitch booth selling “Easy Clean” rug and
upholstery cleaner.

Peggy could not resist interjecting that her whole family
would also be there enjoying a family reunion together
because our cousin, Alice was co-promoter of the
Extravaganza.

During the reunion, Alice gave us a bunch of tickets to the
Women's Mud Wrestling Show. Having extra tickets Peggy
and I were going to give them away to the vendors.

That's when we ran into Bobb at his booth in the show.

Bobb was in his booth pitching his rug cleaner. I walked up
and explained how we had extra tickets to see the
women's wrestling event and that my sister remembered
him so would he like to go?

He looked at me in a deep thought process and without
saying a word he closed down his booth and instead of taking
the ticket I was offering him he just walked off with me.

It’s true our first date together we spent watching women
wrestle in mud...
